Péter Tornyai

Péter Tornyai was born in 1987 in Szeged, Hungary. He learnt music composition in his hometown under the tutorage of Lajos Huszár and later in Budapest from István Fekete Győr. Since 2007, he has been Zoltán Jeney's student at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest where he also studies violin. As a violinist and violist he often performs classical and contemporary music with chamber ensembles such as the THReNSeMBle or the Rondo Quartet. He works closely together with pianist Gábor Csalog with whom they practice, study and perform György Kurtág's music.

In the previous years he won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the Ferenc Liszt Academy's Composition Contests and he also won the 1st prize of the Budapest Fine Arts Museum Composition Contest in 2008. He participated at Gyula Csapó's, Johannes Schöllhorn's (2008) and Nigel Osborne's (2009) master classes and seminars.
