Gábor Péter Mezei

Gábor Péter Mezei was born in 1982 in Budapest. At the age of eight he began to get involved with music. After regular high school, he graduated in 2001 at St. Stephen's Conservatory in Budapest majoring in piano for a music high school degree.

In the years 2000 and 2001 he played live piano improvisations for silent films in the framework of the Hungarian Film Festival »Örökmozgó" in Budapest (in cooperation with the Hungarian National Film Archive).

He studied composing at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich with Prof. Dr. h.c. Dieter Acker, Prof. Hans-Jürgen von Bose and Prof. Jan Müller-Wieland and later on at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Prof. Adriana Hölszky who gave him decisive impetus for his future work.

In 2005 he was a prize winner at the International Franz Josef Reinl Composing Competition in Vienna. In 2010/2011 he was granted a scholarship at the "Cité Internationale des Arts" in Paris, sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art.

He is living and working in Munich as a freelance composer, music arranger, orchestrator, pianist and accompanist.

The focus of his work is the constant quest for ideal proportion, for clarity of sound, for a rhythm that is evident to the human heartbeat, and above all for the intelligibility of the listener's perception – to simply join humanism with avant-garde.
